I’ll openly admit that Kim Kardashian is not someone that comes to mind when I think of people that I relate to. Our lives couldn’t be more different, however, she is a human being that deserves my respect as a fellow human on this planet.
I saw this pop up as a costume that some asshat has decided would be a funny addition to this year’s Halloween costume selections for women.
And you know what? It’s not fucking funny. At all.
None of us know the exact story of what happened to Kim Kardashian in Paris when she was robbed, gagged, and held at gunpoint. However, those three details alone should evoke, at the very least, an iota of empathy from any human being.
While Kim might sit high in her ivory tower with her furs, expensive cars and mink eyelashes- she’s a woman just as I am, she’s a mother just like many of us, she’s a human….just like all of us.
If any of us posted to our personal timelines on Facebook that we’d been robbed, bound and gagged while a slew of armed gunman stole our possessions (big or small), every single one of our friends would have heaps of empathy and sympathy for us.
Why? Because THAT IS FUCKING SCARY.
As a woman, I can tell you that I would fear for my physical safety; the thoughts of: “Is this person going to bring to harm me? Rape me? Murder me?” would definitely be flashing in my brain. Can you imagine how traumatizing something like that would be? I’m certain that many of you DO know how terrifying that is, as many have experienced situations similar to this, or worse.
Yet, because it’s Kim Kardashian and we’re all used to poking fun at her and her husband’s lifestyle, this has turned into a joking matter for many. Some don’t even believe that it happened. People are claiming that this was a public relations stunt- a move to get more people viewing their widely popular show, Keeping Up With the Kardashians.
You’d have to be pretty sick and twisted to pull a move like that, so I am going to believe that what was reported to police is the actual story. Also, I genuinely believe that this woman feared for her safety, and her life. Who wouldn’t??
I am going to say that this Halloween costume is disgusting.
I am going to say that the manufacturer who made this costume is promoting violence.
I am also going to say that the people who purchase it are not just making fun of Kim Kardashian, but also promoting violence themselves.
This is not the same as wearing a Donald Trump or Hillary face mask on Halloween.
How on Earth is this funny?
It’s not funny. Regardless of your feelings on Kim Kardashian, no human being deserves to be bound & gagged, robbed and held at gunpoint while fearing for their life. No, not even someone who casually brings ten million dollars worth of gems to attend fashion week in Paris. No, not even someone who may seem slightly out of touch with reality. No, not someone who posts a million photos of themselves each day where many of their personal possessions are front and center, and no, not even someone who posts nude photos of themselves.
None of the above are an invitation to be robbed or an exception to the universal belief that we all deserve our privacy and freedom to go to bed at night and not worry that a group of men posing as police officers will come into our residence, tie us up, threaten our life and steal our belongings.
Some claim that her flaunting her possessions was just an invitation for this to happen to her. This is rape culture at its finest. As usual.
Of course! How can a woman post a photo of her new outfit or her new engagement ring and NOT expect to be tied up in a bathroom wondering what Godforsaken horrible thing might happen to her. *VOMIT*
This Kim Kardashian costume is not just damaging to her, but to all victims of domestic violence. This costume exemplifies rape culture. This company is literally making a profit off someone’s victimization with the justification that she was asking for it.
This victim blaming shit has got to stop.
One woman’s trauma should not be another’s mascarade. In a season where we look for something sweet, what we really need to be trick or treating for is compassion and empathy. Yes, even for Kim Kardashian.
One woman's trauma should not be another's mascarade. #KimKardashian Click To Tweet
