Well–Tonight I was tucking Haydan into bed and we had our little cuddle and I tickled her back and gave her a mini massage. As I was massaging her calfs, I noticed that the front of her legs were all spiky. I thought, ‘why are her legs are spiky!?…WAIT A MINUTE!’ I looked at her and she had a look of terror on her face as she knew what question was coming next. I said ‘Haydan, did you shave your legs???’ She dove headfirst under her covers and said ‘NO!!!’ I had an immediate flashback to when I decided to shave my legs. I was in fourth grade and my best friend was an avid leg shaver and I had to be just like her. I came home with my glistening newly shaved legs…to my mothers horror. She gave me some speech about how leg shaving is a bonding experience for mother/daughter and how I robbed her of that experience or something like that. I came back to the moment I was faced with: My daughter and her newly shaved legs and, to Haydan’s surprise, erupted in laughter. I mean, come on, that is pretty funny. I asked to see her more grown up stems and she refused. I told her I wasn’t mad and that it may be best to refrain from continuing on with her 5 year old shaving party in the bath tub. She showed me her work, and trust me, if she would have let me, id have gotten a picture of that because it was pretty impressive. I suppose this is my luck for shaving my own legs and ‘robbing’ that experience from my own mother. I thought maybe she would have waited til she was at least in the double digits. #mylifeisinsane
